What the Match Said

Some wait all their lives for the touch

Of a candle in the dark: the blown fuse,

The romantic dinner. I’m sticking around

For something bigger, bolder, something

With noise and color. I will become

The light in your eyes reflected from

The fireworks factory, burning and flashing,

The conflagration celebrating itself

The “conflagration celebrating itself” would happen in my home town 40 years after I left..! A fireworks factory! We didn’t have those “in the old days”…

  2. The link is to a story about Southampton England. Strictly speaking it was a store that also sold fireworks.

  3. What a fantastic poem! Aren’t you clever? The evil in “I’m sticking around for something bigger”!
It was just after dawn so quite a few people filmed it and it is all over YouTube. Here’s one: https://youtu.be/E0-LN7-hy4I
